Spring scenes at the Cavendish underpass

The Cavendish underpass cuts under the train tracks en route to the Cote st Luc neighborhood. Its main draw as an art location is the landscaping, there are large beds full of decorative shrubs and flowers including these white, and one pink, tulips. Maybe its patriotic, red and white? In the background you see some of the cars zooming by. To get the glowing effect on the white tulips I painted around their shapes, and composed the dark red bushes directly behind to give maximum contrast.

I really wanted to paint the rabbit, which you see in the shadow of the bush, but it ran off in the blink of an eye and I painted it from memory. Most years I head out here for Spring, last year, 2024 on May 4th there were many more tulips up, may the 4th be with you! On May 27th 2023 I did a few good ones too.

Looking northwards there was a pair of tall pine trees on the grass embankment next to the underpass. In the background there are many apartment buildings as far as you could see. There are no real bike paths going in there, so I rarely, in fact, I think just once have painted in Cote st Luc.

On the way back I could not resist painting 'The Train Thing', who knows what it does but it looked cool. Probably a mobile train car loader/unloader. To make that shade of yellow I mixed yellow (PY154) with a touch of orange (PO62). The tracks are mostly done with iron oxide red (PR101) purple (PV55) and black (PBk6).
