After work today I found a sheltered spot to sit at the edge of the campus quad and made this painting of the big tree and great puddles of rainwater that tend to collect in this corner. It was actually the pylon and its reflection that drew my attention, and the rest of the composition and the rain drop effect really worked out. What's remarkable about this painting is that there is no visible sky but it is very clear that it is an overcast rainy day. To produce the rain effect, the surrounding areas of the puddle were done in a heavy dark yellow/brown to give the contrast, and the radiating circles were done with a small brush. All the little dots on the tree and around the painting were the actual rain drops hitting the painting while it was still moist.
