Cultural Center Frozen Rain

On my way back from the library, after picking up a book on Provence a southern region of France, I made this painting of the back of the cultural center. It is a nice location to paint since there are few people and it is very quiet. The structures, trees, and open spaces create some good angles and urban scenery. The main challenge with this one was to get the colours right. The upper layer is a periwinkle colour, that is baby blue or powder blue which I tried to make with cobalt blue (PB28), indo blue (PB60) and a touch of carbon black, but it looks a little too greenish here. The red is spot on, I created that mix with ferrari red (PR254), perylene maroon (PR179) and a touch of the blue mixture I had on the palette. The grey slats were made with yellow ochre (PY43) and carbon black (PBk6) to give that yellowish grey. Tiny flakes of freezing rain were hitting the painting, so you get the feeling that it was raining a bit!
