The commuter train rumbled by in the distance, with all the new Griffintown condos in the background. Some of the yellow-orange from the setting sun was reflecting off the glass buildings. Green paint splashed on the paper... it was a messy night of painting.Commuter train Peel basin, watercolour 6 x 7.5" cold press, July 2025 (No. 4525)
Farine Five Roses is a famous sign on top of the Canada Maltage company. They wanted to take down the sign but Montreal made them keep it up due to its cultural importance, and for artists and photographers. Everything else in the scene was brown and shades of grey. At this time of day paint dries slowly which creates a softer effect.Corner of Five Roses sign, watercolour 6 x 7.5" cold press, July 2025 (No. 4526)
Riding down the bike path, and these flowers were in three or four states of decay... white, beige, brown and dark red. Waiting for a good background, the circus tent came into view. Half way into the painting the sun set to the west and the tent caught an orange tint. The floodlights over the tent were starting to be visible. To make the illusion of 'dusk' the sky must be colourful but slightly darker than usual, that way the flood lights appear to be illuminated and everything else seems to have an eerie glow.Circus tent foliage, watercolour 6 x 7.5" cold press, July 2025 (No. 4527)
