Just a trip down memory lane, a chilly trip it turns out. I have not been tagging things as "early works" on my blog but decided to start doing so in order to put some perspective on it. This is me, in 2020 looking back on work done in the mid to late 90's which seem like not so long ago. I had a few winters there in London Ontario where I was keen to go out in the snow and make landscape paintings with watercolour (put some salt in the water, and paint fast!!). In this painting I made sure to include the signature garbage can. I particularly like the shadow colours and smoke effect, and the warmth from the green pine trees. I remember putting down my camping chair, and sitting, and the snow was easily up to my knees! 5 x 7 " cold press watercolour 1997?
Here is another one probably done around the same time, you see, I was not big on record keeping, putting dates on the painting, or even signing all my paintings back then. The building behind the trees is University College and the water is probably the Thames River that runs through campus. The quality of the reflection is quite good, the murky green of the river really comes across. There are probably well over 200 of these small location paintings from London Ontario, I will be sure to post the good ones from time to time. 5 x 7" cold press (300lb press) watercolour 1997?
