K2 Loyola Campus

You may not know this about me but I developed an obsession with Himalayan mountain climbing. It started in 2012 when a Canadian climber from Toronto sadly passed away on the top of mount Everest the highest peak in the world. I have no desire to attempt to climb such a mountain but do enjoy reading about the endeavours of others. The mountain called K2 is the second highest peak located in Pakistan, and it is considered to be the highest and most dangerous to attempt. In fact a Quebec climber recently died on his attempt. What does this have to do with the painting? This pile of snow on Loyola campus, in front of the administration building, looked very similar to the K2 mountain- the shoulder and ridge on the right resemble the Abruzzi ridge. I really tried to get the various snow colours down- there are greys, blues, turquoises, and purples, as well as brown and black. The snow pile in the very front (bottom) of the painting looks very realistic. Another reason for doing this painting was that I hate painting windows, and there are a lot of them on the administration building, but the snow pile blocked most of it! In the end, I never attempted to reach the top of this snow pile it was a good 4 meters high.
