Water Lilies and other Greenery

Park Angrignon has a long pond filled with algae and minnows. Water lilies adorn the south of the pond, there were white and pink flowers along with some sun-bathing turtles. Intricate brush work was required to capture the jumble of lilies with the reflections in the water interspersed. The turtle in the back kept slipping off and climbing back on, so I painted it in the act of climbing back on the rock or tree trunk.

Some water lilies were green, others were an earthy yellow. The main challenge with a painting like this is to capture the water reflections and ripples in between the lily leaves. The purple loosestrife was done with quin magenta (PR122) and phthalo blue sapphire (PB15). Purple loosestrife is an aggressive invasive plant that grows in wetlands. Maybe I should have been tearing it out instead of painting it, but the plant has very deep roots that run laterally under ground, so it is very difficult to remove.

We had some errant trees growing in the backyard area so I dug them up and transplanted them into a field by the Turcot interchange. The field had grown thick with grass and wildflowers since my last visit, it was impossible to walk very much into the area. This scene is the front entrance, but I kept it ambiguous so nobody can every find it! Obviously it is somewhere between NDG and Park Angrignon so it is not too hard to find.
