Snow Pile at Night Somerled Avenue

On my way to Green Canada, a local fruiterie, I stopped to make a painting of this snow pile and interesting sky. Giant snow plows and trucks were rumbling past, busy removing the snow. The cars and nearby shops on Somerled Avenue were casting light onto the scene. The clouds were a salmon-pink glow, which contrasted nicely against the deep purple sky. Illuminated windows brought some amber to the scene. After practicing, I finally got some stars into the sky, it is tricky to do while wearing moose mitts! At -19 with the windchill this was a cold one, the amount of salt (75 grams per half liter) worked well enough, and the Baffin boots with moose mitts kept me relatively warm. To streamline the process I only brought one brush and one salt-water container. A curious person sitting in a parked car asked to see the painting, and wondered if I had an Instagram account.
