Greek Restaurant, black and blue

For the month of June I though I would do some (mostly) black and white paintings. The idea came up in 2020 when I was painting the 68 stations of the Montreal metro, on location I did a pencil sketch along with the paintings. The pencil sketches were cool, and just by adding some blue to the sky the overall effect was graphic and interesting. The paint palette here was graphite grey (PBk11) literally the same substance found in pencils but in watercolour form, lamp black (PBk6), and phthalo blue red shade (PB15). I chose the Greek restaurant because it had some blue components, in fact even the sky today was all grey. The only significant colour missing is the dark yellow/green of the shrubs and the brick red in the background building. I did a painting here back in winter. Painting in mostly black and white is a good but challenging way to learn more about value structure. It seems fun, I will try a few more like this.
