Harvest Moon, Somerled NDG

From time to time I have painted outdoors at night. On a camping trip, a basketball court, and a parkinglot (in the winter) just to name a few night locations. It is always a challenge of visibility, lighting, and safety. Van Gogh made several famous night paintings... He was known to attach candles to his hat in order to see what he was doing. In this painting I was sitting on our mini deck looking between the buildings at the bright harvest full moon. The light from our condo illuminated my paper and palette. The colours were carbon black, indo blue, perylene green, quin magenta, iron oxide red, and yellow/raw sienna for highlights. That is a mostly dark palette.
