Saturday Painting Trip, Island Hopping

Saturdays have been good for painting lately. This week in particular was a long and tough one at work, split between laboratory and home. I was thinking about Saturday painting all week long, and luckily the weather was even better than forecast at least for morning and afternoon. My motivation today was to get out to the Longueuil Metro Station, which is the terminus of the yellow line. I found an angle where you can see Park LaRonde amusement park which is over on Ile St. Helen.

This is a scene from the casino on Ile Notre Dame, you see two of the structures on the edge of the artificial lake, with geese swimming about. There was a bright copper-glow from the tinted windows shown in top left.

Nearby the casino is a narrow aqueduct surrounded by forest. The trees were changing colours, and I found a scene that had about half dozen variations of yellow-green-orange. The turquoise staircase goes down to the aqueduct but there wasn't much to see. I used a lot of tonal variations here, and multiple layers especially in the blue pine tree.

Today I painted on the backs of cut up old paintings that weren't any good. I am testing out a smaller size here which would fit a standard picture frame. It was tough to fit in all the detail here, perhaps a city-scape needs a bigger piece of paper!

Painting small made it possible to do more! This seagull was begging for food, luckily for it I brought a snack for myself and tossed it a few morsels. It later flew onto the rail and posed for a good 10 minutes allowing this painting.

*this is a very thick paper, unless otherwise indicated I usually use 140lbs
