Two more stations down, eight to go! I managed to get out to Frontenac and Prefontaine which are located past where Maisonneuve street seems to end. The path turns north past this station, and then east along Hochelaga street towards the Prefontaine station and then Joliette station. The Rachel bike path is probably going to be better for the further ones, it goes right past PieIX for example.
Frontenac station looks newly renovated and in good repair, there was even a fellow tidying up around the location. Due to the nearby Tim Hortons there were a lot of people hanging around and walking back and forth even though I got to the location early. The sun was just coming up over the buildings creating a warm yellow-orange light and long shadows. 8 x 10" cold press, watercolour, July 2020
Here is the second painting from Frontenac station focusing on the bus stop enclosure that I edited out of the first painting. I did a bus stop like this a long time ago in Bus Stop London Ontario, albeit that painting was an easier angle. For this one I was standing at slight elevation on the other side of the street, which created some difficult angles. The old house with the burnt sienna roof and pink windows really caught my eye, I loved the way it matched up with the orange trim on the bus stop roof. The metro station is tucked in the middle. That building on the top right had a ton of detail, I just tried to hint at it, and overlaid the 'Video' sign too. 8 x 10" cold press, watercolour, July 2020
I wasn't sure if the location had anything else, this seemed to be the only structure, but I walked my bike around just to make sure. And to my surprise I found a great scene, they have an urban market set up on the other side with cool wooden seats and structures with grass growing on top. The Metro sign was hiding behind the grass. I am getting pretty good at painting this Metro sign by now! There is a colour I don't have (yet) called raw sienna, it is basically the colour of the building in the foreground. I used yellow oxide with a touch of black and red to get that pine look. 6 x 7.5" cold press, watercolour, July 2020
This sketch was done looking down on the front entrance from an embankment. It may have made a good painting but the sun was coming down directly here and there was no good place to set up since this was some kind of parking lot area. It captures nicely the cool angles on the structure, and the morning shadows. I accidentally got some phthalo blue on the top of it when doing the paintings, but I really like the look of pencil drawing with just a blue sky like that, I may try it in the future on purpose. 8 x 11" sketchbook, pencil, July 2020
