In 2006 I attended a conference in Nagoya Japan, it was a rare opportunity to see the other side of the globe. Between meetings and with a bit of spare time, I found a few nice spots to paint including behind the convention center where an elder was fishing. I made this quick painting from a vantage point behind them, luckily they were very patient and didn't move much! 5 x 8" cold press, watercolour, 2006 (No. 1205)
Afterwards I went to Kyoto along with some other people from the conference. I made quite a few paintings in Kyoto and in a small town north called Kundai. I did this painting down in the south part of Kyoto which I easily reached by a bike that I borrowed from the place I was staying, there is a bike path that goes full circle around and through the city. Apparently this was a popular place to sit under the cherry blossoms. I included my work shoe in the bottom left, I probably only brought one pair! The weather was not great this day, the rain was barely holding off and started spitting rain later.
