At the end of a busy day of paperwork I walked over to Loyola Park and caught the last 20 minutes of sunlight. When the sun is going down it is important to choose a spot where the sun will not go behind a tree or house putting your subject matter into full shadow. I sat on an old tree stump from a tree they had to cut down due to the beetle infection that took the lives of many trees in our neighborhood. In the background was a baseball game (red and white versus orange and black uniforms), with park benches in them midground and the garbage can in the foreground. The design was tricky, there are about a dozen elements highlighted by sun with complex green surroundings. Getting the perspective on the two benches was key, it brings the viewers eye into the design to create the illusion of depth. 6 x 7.7 cold press, watercolour, July 2020
