Sutton day 2

Still painting the landscape here in Sutton, this time up in Mont Sutton on the hiking trails. The first one was done on the ascent looking North, towards the rolling blue hills. In the morning I made a few colour tests and settled on yellow ochre, phthalo green, and some phthalo blue red shade. 6x7.5" cold press watercolour July 2020.

The second painting was done up on the top of the mountain at a scenic spot looking south towards the USA. I used a wide format and a big brush, not too concerned about detail, the hue shift from blue to green and the textured rocks were my focus. A guard rail fence was omitted. 7.5 x 11" cold press, watercolour, July 2020

On the way down I was low on water and exhausted but the rocky creek stood out as being so iconic of Mont Sutton that I had to stop and capture the scene. I used the river water to paint with, it was crystal clear. Rested and cooled off from the chill of the creek I made my way back to the car. For about a month now I have been collecting the dirty water from my painting and disposing of it back in a sink instead of pitching it on location.
