Doing these doodleism painting is always fun if not a little intimidating. Its the artistic equivalent of riding a bull- you hold on and try not fall on your face. I go page by page through my laboratory notebook, transferring the doodles and filling the empty surface (watercolour paper) with characters and terrain until there is no more space left. Then I colour it in, paint by numbers style. This outline was done with goethite (PY43) a dark sandy colour which inspired the beach theme. The right half of the composition took on a life of its own, its a Hiroshige inspired Japanese fusion. The eye in the middle seems to follow you wherever you look. Its creepy. The beach scene on the left with people in banana chairs look on. The phrase 2-D 3-D was in the notes, and I added I-C because it rhymed and the eye sees you. I CCC U?
12 x 22" cold press B side, watercolour, August 2020
The painting was done on the back of another painting which looked unfinished. I recognize the rhodamine pink, its literally fluorescent but I don't use it anymore due to lightfastness.
No title, 12 x 22" cold press A side, watercolour, 2004?
