Fenelon Falls

 

Speaking of falls, a long time ago I went to Fenelon falls to visit a friend and made a bunch of paintings while I was there. It was some time around the year 2000, perhaps a bit earlier based on the skill level and use of colour that I see in the paintings. It really carries the feeling of a waterfall, you can hear the rumble and feel the mist! 5 x 7" cold press, watercolour, 1997-2000?

Here is another view, I included the rod iron fence which provides contrast, and lots of detail in the background. And another angle featuring a rock and the walking bridge. To create the foamy water effect you drag the brush, semi moist, sideways across the grain of the paper. You can drag the brush in different shapes to create the flow of the water. Then fill in the water shadows which are a shimmering purple grey. 5 x 7" cold press, watercolour, 1997-2000?

 

As I explored the area I found a cool scene of a motor boat attached to a dock. I liked the way the water reflected off the boat hull, and the reflected sky in the windows. It was windy that day. 5 x 7" cold press, watercolour, 1997-2000?

 

There was a lot to paint in Fenelon falls, this was the house of my friends where I was staying at. The more I look at this the more I believe it was closer to 1997. My ambition was slightly greater than my skill, but that's how you grow! Good perspective and fresh light and shadow. 5 x 7" cold press, watercolour, 1997-2000?

 

Just for the people that like to spell check my paintings you will see a problem with this one! The painting was done in the small town, I remember that the building next to this one was a dilapidated wreck so I edited it out of the scene. As I scan these older works, I am slowly but surely scanning everything. I used to just pick my favorites, now I am showing the whole group of paintings. For record keeping this may be useful assuming anyone cares to see a record. The problem there, is that I have painted somewhere around 3000 to 5000 paintings in my life.
