Palette Cleanser #30

A friend from Brazil gave us a nice book on the art of Fayga Ostrower, a Brazilian 20th century abstract artist who specialized mostly in print making but also did oil and watercolour. I got into the book, it has wonderful large sheets that can be removed from the book and put into a frame. Her work was very graphical, restricted colours, and a fairly dark and dour mood which was part of the post world war 2 atmosphere of the time. Her work noticeably lightened up later in life. For the latest palette cleanser I tried to emulate some of the ideas, not so much the style, like the framed elements on left and right, the obtrusive shapes, and the conflict between elements. There is a first attempt on the back of this painting but it looked bad because I was trying too hard to copy her style. This version is more PJD style with the creepy creature, unusual perspective, and landscape inspired elements. Today I did the wild flowers painting on location which gave me the idea for the flowers here.
