These paintings were done at a science conference in Keystone Colorado twenty years ago, I posted the first batch in an earlier Keystone blog. I didn't feel so guilty about painting during a science conference because they scheduled 4 hours off every afternoon so people could go and ski. Life of a scientist is hard sometimes. The weather was cold but not too cold, there had been a lot of snowfall and the sun was shining. This made for ideal winter painting conditions. The tick was to put some salt in the water to prevent freezing. You also want to paint fast, and take advantage of the fact that 'white' in a watercolour is nothing... just the paper. So you save some time the more snow you include. These paintings were a study in atmosphere and contrast.
