Here is a painting I did today down at the Lachine canal where there were folks enjoying the sun and cool breeze. I found a place to sit on a park bench looking towards Atwater market and downtown Montreal. They rent out these large swan-shaped paddle boats, and one guy was paddling a kayak. The bridge is for pedestrians and bikes. I made turquoise with phthalo green and blue, then added black and diluted the mix a lot to get the final pastel colour of the bridge. It seems counter intuitive to add black to make pastel tones, what it does is to reduce the value and chroma effectively making a grey. with a hint of turquoise. This is also the first painting I posted on Instagram which I signed into today. Within minutes people were liking it! Instant gratification.
