Scraps of the Day

Doing this painting was a good way to feel warm. Most of the colours are on the so called warm side of the spectrum, which usually refers to yellow, orange, red and browns. It was actually a palette cleanser, where I clean the paint blobs on my palette. When watercolour paint is applied from a tube onto a palette, it hardens into a blob that can eventually get muddied by other colours. For example, yellow will turn greenish as you use it for mixing. But the hardened blob is just dirty on the surface, so a quick pass with a moist brush will clean it off. I used to discard the excess paint until last year, when I started making these abstract, spur of the moment paintings on watercolour paper.
