Simple Thought

I don't know if this style is maturing or anything, but this painting suggests that it has. In simple thoughts, a series of 5 neurons spans the picture from top to bottom, with a tangle of connecting neurons spelling out the name of the painting, also representing a thought. Thoughts are just groups of neurons holding some kind of cell signalling pattern, like a cyclic adenosine monophosphate gradient for example. I come by the knowledge of the terms and the imagery honestly, after studying immunology and the nervous system for many years, and looking through microscopes at brain tissues for hundreds of hours. The star-shaped cells in the background are called astrocytes, they provide support and communication for the surrounding neurons. At a recent conference in Québec City the Keynote speaker Jack Antel shared one of my artworks on his last slide, it was a digital image of brain cells popping out of a box I made with Blender, a 3D animation software. Art meets science, science meets art.
