Shady path near canal
I stopped for one more painting on the way back, mostly just to catch some shade, and to paint a scene of this path surrounded by trees and enveloped in shade. Located next to the canal, these paths and sidewalks used to be an old train yard connected to the shipping and receiving industry along the Lachine canal. Prior to that, there were several rivers here flowing into Little Pierre lake, also thought to be Otter Lake, before they filled it all in. Somewhere underground in a pipe, water is probably flowing where there was once a river. In NDG, there is practically no natural water any more, we put a pan of water out for the animals, and it is much used by squirrels, ground hog, birds and probably the raccoons at night. When I completed this painting I didn't think much of it, maybe one too many or something. Once I saw it at home, its very peaceful and has a nice even colour scheme with the toasty grass, pinkish gravel path, and slice of turquoise in the top right representing the canal. The light and shadow have that feel of an impressionism painting.
