Along Grand Boulevard there are a series of apartment blocks made from a wide variety of different types of bricks. This one was a near exact match for red/brown iron oxide, a pigment that I have in abundance on my palette. I used the paint at almost full strength in order to exaggerate the brick colours. The car was added to fill in the foreground and break the symmetry of the building, and to provide a bit more of the atmosphere. Same with the three recycling bins, they add a bit of urban charm. I am going to try and include more cars and people in my city scapes now that I feel more confident with the buildings, roads, sidewalks and trees. The car had many interesting shadows and reflections including other apartment buildings and the trees in the park I was sitting (Parc William-Hurst). 8 x 10" cold press watercolour, August 2020
