Orange County Convention Center, Orlando Florida USA part 3

Being in another country brings a different light, different plants, different climate. Down south in the USA everything seems to be tinged with orange, an underlying ochre, warmth from the sun and iron from the earth. The palm trees were fascinating and challenging to paint, multiple bark textures and complex fronds. This was done outside the hotel (Wyndham) where I must have been staying for the conference. The sign was probably white but backlit, creating that purple grey shadow behind the HAM. I probably thought it was funny, to include the last three letters of the sign. Where are the green eggs? 5 x 7" cold press, watercolour, 2001

Near the conference center I found a lot of scenes to paint, not because it was particularly scenic but because I was attending a science conference all day, and just getting out for a break here and there. The only tourist style painting was the upside down house posted in part 2. This one depicts my favorite motifs including the orange pylon, palm trees, and a that dusty rose plaster hotel building. They prefer plaster over brick. 5 x 7" cold press, watercolour, 2001

Finally, there was a social event when the conference ended for students and attendees to have a buffet and some drinks and celebrate the end of four days of intense science. This was done in the party area when most people had left (it wasn't much of a party) and the sun was going down. I caught the pastel oranges and purples of the sky, and the periwinkle blue party tent across the pond. Periwinkle is a kind of baby blue, or sky blue, with a hint of lilac. That concludes the paintings I did at the Orlando conference all those years ago. Hopefully things get back to normal and we can go to conferences again, for the science of course, not the painting. Well, a little painting at least. 5 x 7" cold press, watercolour, 2001
