When thinking back on the Sutton trip this painting is a personal favorite. The three dragonflies are a nice touch. I had such a good time doing this one it was a memorable location, the complete opposite of the city. Lake Vogel is just a little pond off the main trail where hikers can drop for a rest on Mont Sutton. There was a perfect little place to sit under the pine trees and paint while listening to the warbling birds. It reminded me a lot of the old days when our family would paddle the canoe in Algonquin park. To create the greens I used a lot yellow ochre which gave it a soft texture but dulled some of the colours. The water was a pea-soup khaki mixture. Golden reeds and an impressive rock formation lined the shore.In the midst of painting something jumped in the middle of the lake. What was it? 8 x10" cold press, watercolour, July 2020
