Loyola Campus Quad, NDG

Loyola Campus is named after Loyola campus, which is named after a noted Jesuit historical figure after which many colleges and schools are named. Just to the left of where I was sitting there is a giant statue that seems to commemorate indigenous people who lived here before the French army took it all over and turned it into farms. From what I read, the indigenous people were embroiled in a kind of civil war between tribes when the colonialists showed up. It is remarkable how much conflict there can be. Normally this area is crowded with new students and professors, but today there were just a few people here and there on the benches. I was sitting well off to the side on one of the many rocks.
