Secret Spot, NDG

Here is my secret spot, a corner of NDG where nobody seems to go based on the lack of trash or trails here, just wild flowers and burrs growing on a hilltop. Highway 720 is visible in the background, and the new overpass at St. Jacques crosses over exit ramps and service roads. This was a gut-check painting, you start doing it and there is no turning back! The wild flowers were all different textures shapes and the burr plants had turned a dark chocolatey brown. I used every technique in the book to get the flowers that way- the main thing was to keep each little area like a puzzle piece. The angles on the roads create slashing diagonals that take the eye up and away. The telephone pole keeps the composition tight and brings the eye back to the flowers. It was a great moment of painting on location.

  1. It seems Labor's day was productive for you. Not many people around, unique view, and these wild flowers are breathtaking.
